Radial Head Excision

Elbow X-rax before surgery                                                   Elbow X-ray after surgery
Radial Head Fractured Pieces                          Radial Head after "Reconstruction"
35 years old male from Noida presented to Dr. Ashwani Maichand with complaints of severe pain in right elbow after alleged history of fall. He was hardly able to move his right elbow. X-ray showed Fracture radial head right side.
Considering the young age of the patient, Dr. Ashwani Maichand & Team were prepared for radial head fixation with mini screws and plates. The radial head was exposed via classical incision but when our team reached insider we found that radial head was broken into four different pieces. Though the articular cartilage was in good condition but repairing four pieces was almost impossible.
Even if you try to fix such a bad fracture there are chances that the fragments will displace later on inviting another surgery. Hence Radial head excision was done. Post op movements of elbow and forearm were pain free and the patient was discharged the very next day in satisfactory condition.
